Studio News

It’s been a tough year for us all with the current economic chill wind, which has meant a lot of extra hard work. But I have a friendly, loyal and supportive band of visitors and web-followers. I am delighted to tell you I have just had a really successful season. So if you came to visit – thank you. If you haven’t yet been – do drop in; it’s fun, and there’s plenty new to see! But either way, thank you for your continuing interest.

New venture – my first external solo exhibition... and it’s landscapes!
I’ve taken the brave step of my first solo exhibition away from the studio. I had a successful shared exhibition at Richmond this year, so am going solo at Helmsley Arts Centre this Autumn [see map]. This is a very exciting development for me. The exhibition is called ‘Along Different Lines’. It features exclusively my landscape work. There are more than 30 new watercolours and print versions of many of them. You can see some of them on the website, but they look better in the flesh! So please do come to Helmsley to support the exhibition if you can.

The preview is at 7.30 on Sunday 25 October, then the exhibition is open from Tuesday 27 October until Friday 20 November. The Arts Centre (based at the Old Meeting House, Helmsley YO62 5DW - see map) is open to the public Tuesdays to Fridays between 12 noon and 3.30pm and Sundays 11-3.30. I'll be there each Sunday from 12 noon, so if you can't get to the preview then please do come and say hello.

New features at the Levisham studio
There are a few changes in the Station House studio at Levisham station. With the help of my new assistant Emma-Jane, we are redesigning the displays over the autumn to offer more original paintings – both landscapes and railway scenes – and a bigger range of landscape prints along with original watercolours. We will, of course, keep offering the highly successful railway limited edition prints. Over the next few weeks the new work will also appear on this website.

New Cards
We tried out a range of railway greetings cards this summer, and people really liked them. So we are now expanding the range in two ways. First, there will be a selection of landscape scenes on cards as well railways. And we are also producing packs of four Christmas cards which you can order here or in the studio.

Set of four C6-size cards with a Christmas greeting OR blank £4 + £1 P&P

Your Christmas problems solved !
No, I can’t mend the Christmas tree lights or stuff the turkey, but if you are really scratching your head for a present I may be able to come up with the perfect answer – one the recipient chooses!

I offer gift tokens for any value. You tell me how much you want to spend and I send you, or your recipient direct, a card for that value allowing them to put it towards the cost of any painting or print. If that helps, just contact or ring me or my new assistant Emma-Jane on 01751 470112.

These vouchers are available throughout the year.

Winter opening hours
See dates & times at top of page. In the meantime...

I'll be working in the studio most weekdays, and welcoming visitors. However, it would be worth ringing ahead on 01751 470112 if you would like to visit mid-week to make sure I will be here, and to tell me to put the kettle on!
